Securing cloud computing

What is cloud computing?? It refers to a broad set of policies, technologies and controls deployed to protect data, application and associated infrastructure. Its sub-domain is computer security, network security and information security. Working on a cloud or not is a basic question asked to every employee. For instance, people working in hospitals are generally blamed for disclosing health records of their patients. Talking to a layman, it is a group in an organization connected through networks, but even if the hackers are good at hacking, the data will remain safe within the company boundaries. Therefore, cloud computing is very wonderful stuff to work upon, but only in a secured way. Does Analytics Play a Big Role in the Supply Chain?

The dilemma of supply chain exists in every sector; even in the pharmaceutical industry. Availability of medicine is an issue because of uncertainty and at the same time one can’t stock the shelves unnecessarily. Analytics tool plays a big role here in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. Analytics had been used for a very long time in this sector but today's analytical tools are quicker, collaborative (to suppliers and customers), advance and give visual effects to the users. FusionOps is a new analytical tool which lets pharmaceuticals analyze the data at one place which was difficult earlier. It also gives users an opportunity to see different scenarios and then take final decision. This tool lets the user anticipate demands, sectors the data and meet the targets on time.

Disaster management in IT

IT managers are concerned about the heat hazards inside a data center, but what about outside hazards? Climate trends are increasingly affecting the IT operations. Weather related disturbances lead to grid outages which affect its efficiency. The need for disaster recovery tools are raising. But it's not budget friendly to maintain two data centers. So people have shifted their focus to DRaaS i.e. Disaster Recovery as a Service. It leads to less infrastructure management. Read the complete article here:  http://www.computerworld.com/article/3048467/disaster-recovery/for-it-climate-change-means-preparing-for-disaster.html

Cloud and HR

Earlier, whenever an employee was hired, a lot of paperwork generated which required hours of works by managers. They had to file them, record them and place them securely. And whenever a need arises to have a look at that document, one will find herself in the midst of piles of document, searching for it. But now processes have changed. But now, whenever an employee is hired an email is sent to the person providing her a link where she can upload her documents which is equivalent to the paperwork done before. This saves time, space and is prone to fewer errors. This system is recoverable in case a document is lost. Cloud has made HR's life significantly easier. Cloud App Security Makes Cloud Computing less Complicated

Organizations are now shifting their data on cloud. This creates a problem for IT in terms of security and handling, because security teams needs strong visibility, control and threat protection for cloud applications.

Microsoft Azure is an open, flexible, enterprise-grade cloud computing platform. Microsoft Azure’s part Cloud App Security makes it possible for IT to set up application discovery and check with the existing security. Since there are numerous applications it is not always possible for IT to know the risk of running an App. But cloud app security gives a risk score(based on prior examination, certificates and information) to most of the App .It gives IT department the same control as their internal software as they can also track how the App is being used through Connecting.

Security In Cloud Technology

The cloud market continues to grow in 2016. Companies are now more willing to adopt the cloud technology. But security being one of the biggest concern, it is often difficult to choose which cloud style to choose- Public cloud or on premise cloud. Public clouds have a very nice structure and security mechanism which helps the user use the platform economically and securely. On premise setup will require a large investment. But then there are some data which can't be moved to the public cloud. For regulatory, compliance or customer demand reasons, a company can't expose data to public clouds. So the company must invest in the security of their applications and let the public cloud giants secure the infrastructure. SaaS: Still the Best Option for Cloud Computing!

Companies, today, are migrating to cloud in order to minimize the cost and efforts. This means shifting from on-premises system to cloud. More companies are adopting Iaas or PaaS model. Companies have to refactor or re-write the pieces of application for cloud platform. In this process companies may fail to assess, whether do they even need these models? Or will it offer any value to the company? One more model “SaaS’’which was the original cloud (introduced 15 years back) is overlooked by IT. SaaS is better, more efficient and less costly. There more than 2000 SaaS offerings with a large range, those are easier to deal with. Companies can use the mixture of Iaas and SaaS in the cloud. Difference between Hadoop and Apache Spark

Hadoop and Apache Spark are seen as the competitors in the world of big data, but now the growing consensus is that they are better convention in together. Here is a brief look at what they do and how they are compared.  1. They do different things: Both are the big-data frameworks, but they do not serve the same purposes. Hadoop is a distributed data infrastructure. It also Indexes and keep track of that data, enabling big-data processing and analytics. On the other hand, Spark is a data processing tool. Secondly, both can be used individually, without the other. 3. Spark is faster 4. You may not need Spark's speed: Spark is fit for real-time marketing campaigns, online product recommendations, cybersecurity analytics and machine log monitoring. 5. Failure recovery: differently, but still good. Read more at: http://www.computerworld.com/article/3014516/big-data/5-things-to-know-about-hadoop-v-apache-spark.html

SMBs open up new markets for Cloud Computing

Cloud was an unknown term to almost all small and medium businesses (SMB) 4 years back but now nearly half of the SMBs have adopted cloud. There are many factors behind it. The first is ability to access to data stored on cloud with mobile devices and mobility is very important in today’s world. Second factor is backup and recovery adequacy of cloud which is a cheaper option than buying and maintaining a backup system. Another reason why cloud is an attractive option is that standardization leads to improved data security. With cloud gaining immense popularity in the future any SMB not using it would be a rare site similar to a person not using smart phone in current era! Cloud And Security Myths

There is a fear attached to the security of cloud. However these are myths. Some are:
1. Cloud is riskier than traditional IT: Data breaches can happen on premise. The efficient way is to work with a competent, experienced provider that invests in strong network securities.
2. You can’t control where your data resides in the cloud: regulated industries like health care require valuable information. This is discredited because organizations can choose specific region based data centers, private clouds.
3. The cloud is not suitable for complaint workload: organizations can leverage for private or hybrid cloud development model better suited to the needs.

Cleaning up your Dark Data is necessary.

Companies of every shape or size recently have moved to Big Data as they realized how beneficial it is for their organizations. To efficiently use the big data, companies need to collect and process it first, from multiple sources. Some data remains unused in the case of unstructured data mostly, which poses a problem later leading to clogging up data centres. Such unused data has been termed as – Dark Data which needs to be cleaned up or else it increases security risk and costs for the companies. Dark Data firstly needs to be identified. It is the information collected but not put to any specific use. Such data remains unused for years and takes up a lot of space which could have been used otherwise to store useful data. Dark Data remains unprotected for a while and poses risk of security breaches and mishaps. Dark Data is costly and dangerous but still companies keep them to make sure they don't lose any kind of records. Cleaning of Dark Data is time consuming but is important as well. One of the most effective ways of avoiding such data is by filtering the data which prevents data from piling up. Other ways to clean such data is by moving the Dark Data to different repositories using cloud computing. Dark Data can be deadly for organizations and hence it should be avoided before it poses any problem for the business.
