Flash vendors advocate the use of de-duplication and compression technologies combined with smaller space and lower power consumption. This means that when you buy 20 TB of raw flash capacity, the effective capacity is actually greater. But according to Michael Gunton, GM for Data Center Services, flash does not really reduce data footprints. Apparently data Scientists have seen trends of higher density infrastructure from the cloud providers. The benefits of consolidation are not apparent to ordinary business customers so they are not buying much flash to put in data centers.
