The Hybrid Cloud: Shifting Emphasis from Cost to Benefit

A hybrid cloud is a cloud computing environment in which an organization provides and manages some resources in-house and has others provided externally. For example, an organization might use a public cloud service, such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for archived data but continue to maintain in-house storage for operational customer data. The hybrid approach allows a business to take advantage of the scalability and cost-effectiveness that a public cloud computing environment offers without exposing mission-critical applications and data to third-party vulnerabilities. This type of hybrid cloud is also referred to as hybrid IT. The hybrid cloud has the potential to transform enterprise IT completely and shift the cost/benefit emphasis from cost to benefit.

Matt Watts, Netapp, speaks about how hybrid cloud can bring this transformation. To know more, please visit:

Google’s Cloud Platform Gets Improved Hadoop Support

Long ago, Google has integrated Hadoop on its cloud platform to provide customers a framework for storing and processing large amount of data. Earlier, the only way to get in and out of Hadoop on Cloud Platform was through Google’s Cloud Storage service. In order to run Hadoop on data within its “BigQuery SQL” and “Cloud Datastore NoSQL” databases, recently Google has launched connectors for both of these two products, complementing the existing Cloud Storage implementation.

Kinesis: Live data processing service from the house of Amazon Web Services!

During 2013 December, Amazon launched Kinesis. It is a service for real-time processing of streaming data. Kinesis is designed to capture small records, which in turn forms huge amount of backend data. Amazon wanted to be able to capture all of that data, aggregate it, and put it into its AWS cloud storage service (S3), so that they could look at it at a later stage. Waite, General Manager of Data Services, AWS, said “This enables us to scale the metering service to new limits and give alerts in real time”.
